Why I Built ToxGenie: A Toxicologist's Journey
Hi there! If you’re reading this, you’re probably a lot like I was 30 years ago.
You likely spend most of your days in a lab or an office, staring at a screen full of toxicity data.
Back when I was a young researcher, I too spent countless hours struggling with statistical analysis.
The most frustrating part? I wasn’t even a statistician! Yet, just to figure out the software, I had to study manuals that were thicker and way more complicated than my own major textbooks
I realized that junior researchers and graduate students are still struggling with statistics—and in some cases, even doing the analysis incorrectly. To make matters worse, nowadays you don’t just have to read thick manuals; you have to learn how to code, too.
That’s exactly why I decided to create an environment where we can focus purely on our true expertise: toxicology research.
I’m not a professional coder, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I dove into learning programming with one clear goal in mind: to build an automated solution that truly speaks the language of our laboratories. Every single line of code I wrote was shaped by real, honest feedback from fellow toxicologists.
That’s how ToxGenie was born. Unlike general statistical software, I designed it specifically to understand the unique nuances of toxicity data. Because it already has OECD and US EPA standards built right in, you can completely bypass that steep learning curve of coding and complex stats.
